NYC Sucks

I’m sure NYC is an exciting place to live, no doubt. However, it’s overcrowded/overpriced. NYC attracts a lot of people who want to work above all else. So NYC is basically a city when all you do is to work, and all you care about is your job. Unless you’re RICH, you aren’t going to have the quality of life you could expect in nearly any other major US city. All the ordinary cool and affordable areas have all become part of this corporate entertainment business…. and I am including places like the East Village…..the Meat packing district etc…. where they we’re once bohemian or ”alternative” lifestyle people….now, Hyp hotels have been built, chain restaurants and coffee shops are all over the place as well as new condos and stores belongings to corporate enterprise or big names.

Furthermore, NYC is now full of trust-fund hipsters from all over the place. Self-absorbed humans looking for some kind of romanticized lifestyle that they have see in the movies or shows. I just find those sorts of people to be just as bland and homogeneous as suburbanites just far more full of themselves. Overall, I feel there is just something so very phony about a lot of the subcultures in NYC (although I could be wrong). Far too many people are fulfilling some sort of fantasy or facade. In addition, the diversity of restaurants, arts, museums is not really worth it.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is fabulous, yes, but to live in NYC just for that? Keep in mind that it is so crowded much of the year, absolutely jam packed. Or for the Whitney, the Guggenheim, the Modern or the Frick, same deal. The New York Philharmonic is great, but there are other symphonies in the U.S. that are considered to be better. The Metropolitan Opera is wonderful, but to live in NYC just to be able to get to the Met?

I think I’ll be more than happy to visit the Urban Disneyland a few times a year, but I prefer a more bohemian feel without the pretense.
